The Residences at Cuneo Mansion & Gardens

WBK was the lead designer of the Residences at Cuneo Mansion & Gardens, in Vernon Hills, Illinois. The proposed neighborhood consists of 128 single-family homes whose zoning and entitlements were granted during a complicated P.U.D. process which took over three years to complete.

The site is home to the Cuneo Mansion, former residence of Samuel Insull, an original founder of General Electric Company with surrounding gardens designed by world-renowned landscape architect Jens Jensen. The goal of the project was to provide residents a unique housing opportunity, offering residents a chance to live in close proximity to the historic mansion while integrating the existing gardens into the new neighborhood.

The design preserves many of the natural features of the site and protects the serene environment and setting provided by the historic gardens.  The neighborhood features an organic network of streets winding through open parkland showcasing the highest and best quality examples of mature existing landscapes while fitting naturally into the existing property. Design of the proposed parks is inspired by Jensen’s original design incorporating native landscapes and signature elements such as council rings, sculptures, and structures.

The community features distinctive ranch and two-story residences starting in the $600s.
