WBK assisted IDOT District 2 in the analysis of alternatives for a 365-foot long retaining wall system along US Route 20 in Jo Daviess County. The high embankment, steep slope and soft soil limited the types of retaining structures that could be utilized. Working with the geotechnical sub-consultant, a precast modular retaining wall was selected as the best solution for the site conditions. Contract plans and special provisions were prepared for the General Contractor to submit for competitive bids for the fabrication of wall components. The wall is founded on the existing variable rock ledge and varies in height from 3 feet to 20 feet.  Construction of the wall was completed in the Fall of 2012.
